The joke is his unsettling, non-sequitur way of contributing to small talk. In the black-and-white votey, the same couple sit at a table eating; the woman happily says "Mmm, pie," and the man, still grinning, blurts out again "Cat in a blender!", showing he repeats this disturbing line as his go-to conversation starter.
